Program Description
Research Summary
Focus group discussions and base line surveys were conducted with 15-24 year olds. Findings indicated that more than one partner in the past year is typical, especially for older males; 50% of 20-24 year old males and 25% females in the same age category report two or more partners in the past year.
STD risk perception is low because youth believe they can avoid STDs by choosing partners carefully. Less than half of youth know that you can get HIV from a healthy looking person, and almost 60% believe that you can avoid AIDS by choosing your partner carefully. Assessment of risk is based on judgment of partner but not on previous sexual history.
