Program Description
Research Summary
The 1997 DHS indicated that while many of Benin's sexually active men possessed basic knowledge about HIV/AIDS , half of those who are sexually active and single lacked the critical knowledge that condoms are a means to prevent HIV/AIDS (and other STIs).
The 1999 KAP clearly revealed a large need for basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention. Among married men with sexual partners other than their wives, 69% were not aware that condoms can prevent AIDS. Similarly, 67% of sexually active women not in union did not recognize condoms as a means to prevent AIDS.
