Description of Behavioral Problem
Individuals are in need of information about multiple HIV prevention methods.
Program Description
The objective of PSI/China's program addressing HIV prevention among IDUs is to decrease sharing of needles/syringes/equipment and increase consistent condoms use with commercial, casual and regular partners among IDUs. The program provides a drop-in center staffed by trained peer educators, and recently began IDU community outreach, and peer education in detox centers. IPC message content in activities with IDUs includes decreasing needle sharing and increasing condom use among IDU, increasing support for the IDU's ability to obtain clean needles by advocacy with the local police, community leaders, and pharmacies and clinics selling N/S. IPC staff use visual aids such as flip charts to express health messages, and distribute brochures to reinforce health messages.
