Channel: IPC
Target Group: Pregnant women and families with children

Description of Behavioral Problem
Non-use of insecticide impregnated bednets increases risk of malaria for pregnant women and children under 5.
Program Description
The objective of Benin's malaria prevention project is to reduce malaria mortality and morbidity, and targets pregnant women and parents of children under 5. IPC activities include a campaign for behavior change at home, communication activities with a focus on net impregnation to protect from mosquitoes, and prevent malaria. IPC tools include visual aids and cards. Messages include how malaria is transmitted and facts about malaria (e.g., 50 children die every day in Benin from malaria; Malaria treatment is more expensive than prevention). IPC sessions are facilitated by communication agents and program coordinators. The program conducted 2400 talks and has reached 146,000 people.
