PSI/Benin's PSAMAO Project's objective is to prevent HIV/AIDS/STI infections and stop the practice of self-medication and treatment of STI infections among mobile and cross border populations, including long distance truck drivers and commercial sex workers. IPC activities included behavior change communication activities with a focus on discussions about individual risk awareness. IPC tools include videos, games, role plays, visual aides and case studies. Brochures are distributed to reinforce health messages. IPC messages included awareness of methods of HIV/STI transmission, risk behavior, and the ABCs of safe sexual relations. PSI worked with 4 NGOs which correspond to those areas through which targeted populations pass- GRADDUR (Togo Border); Le Projet SIDA 3 Benin (Cotonou); Jeuness Ambition (Nigerian border) and OSV/Jordan (Parakou, Northern Benin). IPC workers have conducted 33,983 talks reaching 256,000 people.
